Uranus

What is Uranus? Uranus is the inventor who harnesses the power of natural processes and creates machines that liberate millions from heavy toil and ignorance. It's the Teslas, the Wright Brothers, and the Steve Jobs who listen to a call others can't quite hear. It's the gender bender who refuses to conform for the sake of acceptance and frees other people to be more themselves. Uranus performs the necessary function of sweeping away the stale, the stiff, the overly conforming. Usually the tools are technological/ideological innovations that connect people to the outside world. Before 1781, most people were locked both physically and mentally in small (Gemini/Mercury) spaces. While there were books and pamphlets, only a few could read-and books not approved by the local powers that be could only be kept in secret. Soon afterwards new technology arrives that is liberating: steam engine the telegraph, the auto. People began contacting people who came from elsewhere, and went elsewhere. People began to realize that the King (and his minions) didn't know everything, that some places were better than others. Folks began to revolt, feeling that such ignorant people weren't good enough to rule anymore. Of course, it wasn't just monarchy: it was also religion. People began to feel that their opinions and lives matter, and simply looking for the afterlife wasn't an answer to their troubles.

It's 84-year arc, 7 years in a sign, is the cycle of innovation, restlessness*. In a personal chart it's where a person feels the most need for freedom.

Aquarius

Aquarius, forward-looking, distributive, friendly to all, close to few. The idea/ideal greater than the the individual. It's the what's next after the cumulative accomplishments of Capricorn. It's the head of the company who finally made it to the summit only to ask "what it truly means" in the greater meaning of things.Capricorn, the height of human aspiration, dominance, structure, discipline. Aquarius lives with at least one foot in the future. Innovator, activist, ideologue. That's Aquarius. Aquarius rules the collective impulse of humankind, the need to unite on a basis of ideas. Gemini rules friendship, Cancer the tribal, Libra the mutually beneficial partnership. Aquarius joins through ideas that transcend them all.

How does Aquarius rule in an executive position? Aquarius rules by forming groups who rule: think FDR's "Brain Trust", Lincoln's "Circle of Rivals", Reagan who delegated much to his aides. They throw out the rule book if the rules don't really apply to the situation anymore and dare the rulemakers to challenge them on it. Lincoln's rules during the Civil War, the approach to the New Deal. Someone said "he's breaking rules! he's defying tradition!. Both stared down the opponents who had little else to say on the subject. quarius lives with at least one foot in the future. Innovator, activist, ideologue. That's Aquarius. Aquarius believes in the common humanity under the outer manifestations that people have, and sometimes believes tha those manifestations can sometimes stand in the way of finding common humanity. Therefore they often ignore them, to the chagrin of more traditional types. How does Aquarius rule in an executive position? Based on the basic interpretation of the sign, an Aquarius state should be open-to technology, innovation, various social and ethnic groups. If it's on a positive arc, maybe so. A more negative arc would be governing from a more purely ideological position instead of an inclusive, pragmatic one. Aquarius Presidents seem to come along when the Nation has reached a turning point. While the first one, William Henry Harrison, didn't last long, his death clarified issues of Presidential succession-a President becomes President immediately upon his predecessor's death, something that helped the nation bounce back from Presidential losses. Congress couldn't call someone an "Acting President", meaning powers and influence were provisional under some unknown protocol. Lincoln had to deal with the final fury of Secession and the end of slavery. The United States also was able to industrialize, accellerate the settling of the West, start a Transcontinental Railroad, form land-grant colleges, and in short finally connect all of the United States both physically and commerically. Mckinley was American expansionism, expelling almost the last of European power from the Western Hemisphere. FDR-the Great Depression, World War II. Either one would have been a massive work, but FDR had to do with both-and also was in the process of another massive work-the United Nations and the creation of a Post-War World that would hopefully prevent another Hitler.

The Eleventh House:

The Eleventh House (Hopes and Wishes) Perhaps its because group efforts make many individual dreams come true? A tall skyscraper is built by a group. The ideals of many are upheld with group discipline.

Air signs are by definition-airy. Strong for communication, ideas, bringing people together. Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, are the thinkers of the Zodiac, coming up with ideas that other signs bring into actual fruition.

Aquarius is a fixed sign. Fixed signs tend to be steadfast (good) or bull-headed (not so good) Aquarius has to remember that ideas do change, and that ideology is meant to serve people, not the other way around. Groups (which is what Aquarius does) have to remember that the individual is important and has needs that even a group should not dismiss litely. History is replete with cases where ideas almost literally burn out people because they become too rigid or outmoded.
